OAB 2013 failing to download
Greeting,
My Outlook 2013 client is unable to download the OAB from my exchange 2013 server.
I get the following Error:
Offline Address Book Error (0x8004010F) - The operation failed. An object cannot be found
With the changes of the OAB in 2013 I am bit confused on where to start to troubleshoot this. My CAS server, non internet facing), is separate from my mailbox server, so their might be some confusion their on my part.
I am testing this on a client that is internally....it is not working externally either. I do have a 2013 CAS server Internet facing) and Mailbox Server in another AD site. Is it a matter of delete the 2013 OAB from both 2013 CAS servers
and re-creating them?
Appreciate the support in getting this worked out.
Cheers

I don't think there is a file distribtion service in Exch 2013 ? Indeed make sure the offline address book is linked to the mailboxdatabase. I had the exact same problem with exch2013 and outlook 2013 clients. I ran test-outlookwebservices on the server
and it failed on autodiscover, the reason was no oab url, which is obviously a problem and preventing clients from downloading the oab. First thing to check is the oab virtual directory, does it have the internal + external url's setup ? In my case they actually
were correct so I simply removed the autodiscover virtual directory (remove-autodiscovervirtualdirectory) and re-created it again (new-autodiscovervirtualdirectory). After a few minutes, clients were able to download the oab.

Hi Sjaak327,
Yes this is for Exchange 2013. What server did you run the test on? I have my CAS role and Mailbox roles on separate servers. Also, my mailbox is in a site where their is no internet facing CAS server. My OAB Virtual directory on
my none-internet facing CAS has the internal URL populated. My internet facing CAS has both the internal and external populated.
When running the (remove-autodiscovervirtualdirectory) What CAS server should I perform this on, both internet facing as well as my local site CAS server? My internet facing CAS is in another AD site. I performed a reset from the Exchange
Admin Center on the Autodiscover (Default Web Site) on my local site CAS with no change is OAB download ability. Are you suggesting to perform a remove and re-create? if so, what CAS server should I perform this on?
Much appreciated.
Cheers

Follow up on this:
When I run the Test-OutlookWebServices -Identity:username@domain.com -MailboxCredential:(get-credential....)
Results are:
Autodiscover: Outlook Provider Failure
Exchange Web Services: Success
Availability Service: Success
Offline Address Book: Skipped

Seems to be the exact same problem, this is what was happening on my side as well.
Try running test-outlookwebservices with-verbose. and either see in the console, or output to a text file.
See what error message comes up before you even consider to re-create the auto-discovery configuration.
You should run the test-outlookwebservices against each CAS server to see if it passes, and if not why. Based upon this research you can take the next steps.
In my case it was a single cas/mbx server, and test-outlookwebservices failed at autodiscover and skipped oab just as your results show, running verbose gave me the clue that it complained about the OAB URL not being there, even though both were correctly
entered on the OAB virtual directory. That's why I figured that the autodiscover wasn't working correctly and that's what made me re-create it. Which in turn lead to the problem being resolved.

Hi Jvangent100,
After re-creating the autodiscover virtual directory I performed the test-outlookWebServices it still appears to be failing on Autodiscover: Outlook Provider, and skipping the OAB. I do not see any URL for OAB when the test is printed to the screen
using the -verbose command.
Also this appears:
ERROR: Skipped testing Offline Address Book because the Autodiscover step failed.
Any thoughts?

Pipe the output to a file using >
in my case the autodiscover test specifically stated the reason for failure.

Hi Jvangent100,
Thanks for the info.
"The Autodiscover response did not return a URL for Offline Address Book"
Which makes sense, since when I run the following command, Get-offlineaddressbook | fl WebdistributionEnabled,VirtualDirectories,Identity
The following appears:
WebDistributionEnabled: FALSE
VirtualDirectories: {}
Identity: \2010 OAB (Ex2013)
So for the virtual directories on my 2010 environment, these point to the CAS\OAB (Default Web Site) location. For 2013, since I have my roles separated, where should I point these to, the CAS or the Mailbox Server?
Updated: So even after setting the Virtual Directories, I am still getting the "The Autodiscover response did not return a URL for Offline Address Book."

First enable webdistribution on the offline address book virtual directory. OAB is a Client Access function, so they would normally go on a CAS server.
If autodiscover keeps complaining about no URL I would delete and re-create the autodiscovery virtual directory on the server where the error is reported.

Thank you again for the response.
It took a bit of time for the change to be come active. Well over 15 minutes. Once time passed, my 2013 Outlook Client was able to successfully download the OAB.
Thank You for the information and greatly appreciate the help.

Hi Jvangent100,
My users who are still on Exchange 2010 are saying that the address book that is being downloaded is not up-to-date. However my Exchange 2013 users are showing the updated address book. Do I need to go to the Exchange 2010 mailbox databases and
point them now to the Exchange 2013 OAB address book? If the 2013 Address Book is being updated are these changes not being populated to the 2010 OAB now?
Any thoughts?
Cheers
