OAB Download problem
Hi All, My Exchange server in running on WIn 2008 Sp2, it's E2K7 CCR. The OAB has been configured to distribute both thru PF and Web. All the client are Outlook 2007 SP1 at a min some are SP2. The OAB gen occured twice a day on the CCR & get get disrtributed to the CAS server which are on the NLB. The Outlook doesn't download the OAB each time the user logs on to the Exchange. If only the manual download works fine, not the automatic download. Does anyone see, some configuration being wrong? swamy

Hi,
From your description, I think that you are able to download Offline Address Book manually by clicking Download Address Book. If I am base, please let me know.
If I am right, I think that the Exchange Server is configured correctly for OAB generation and distribution. I suggest you read following article:
Administering the offline address book in Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841273/en-us
Q5: How frequently is the offline address book updated on the Outlook client?
A5: If left constantly running, Outlook in cached mode automatically updates the offline address book on the client every 24 hours. The 24-hour time period is measured from the time that the offline address book was last downloaded successfully. For example, if you complete an offline address book download at 09:00 today, Outlook will start the offline address book download the next day at approximately 09:00. Therefore, different people will receive updates at different, random times.
Q18: Do send/receive settings affect automatic 24-hour offline address book downloads?
A18: The Download offline address book check box in the Send/Receive Settings - "Group_name" dialog box does not affect the 24-hour download process. In fact, Outlook cached mode will continue to download the offline address book every 24 hours regardless of whether the option is enabled.
Note To locate this option, follow these steps:
a. On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive, point to Send/Receive Settings, and then click Define Send/Receive Groups.
b. Click your account group, and then click Edit.

Sorry for the late response. 1) How frequently is the offline address book updated on the Outlook client? My CCR is configured to generate the OAB twice a day. 6 AM n 1 PM. I left my outlook open for almost 56 hours even then the oultook didn't download the OAB, but when i download the OAB manually, i do see the latest created users and updates. 2) Do send/receive settings affect automatic 24-hour offline address book downloads? Not sure, but the auto download is not working. swamy

Hi,
Would you please let me know whether all the clients encountered the problem or only specific clients encountered the problem? If you close and restart Outlook, whether the new OAB files can be downloaded after waiting 10 minutes.
In addition, I would like to explain that it is possible the client is delayed to update OAB files after adding a new user.
1. The OAB files is generated on Mailbox Server twice a day
2. The CAS server pull the OAB files from Mailbox Server every 8 hours
3. The Outlook downloads OAB files every 24 hours
Thanks,
Mike
