OAB Generation not happening Exchange 2007
Hi All,As per the title of this thread, our exchange server wont generate an OAB. I've trolled the net for solutions but just seem to be going round in circles and getting no further ahead than i was at the beginning. I am truely stumped on this problem. When I attempt an update of the OAB these are the event log entries that show up;Time Type Source EventID Message ----- ---- ---- ------ ------- ------- 1258 Mar 12 07:23 Info MSExchangeSA 9107 Offline address list gen eration finished. - Exchange 2007 OAB 1257 Mar 12 07:23 Erro MSExchangeSA 9334 OALGen encountered error ffffffff while initiali zing the offline address list generation process. No offline addr ess lists have been gene rated. Please check the event l og for more information. - Exchange 2007 OAB 1256 Mar 12 07:23 Warn MSExchangeSA 9109 OALGen encountered an er ror ffffffff (internal I D 50506a8) while generat ing address list '/o=vis ion/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs /cn=Exchange 2007 OAB'. Check other logged even ts to see if this is a s erious error. - Exchange 2007 OAB 1255 Mar 12 07:23 Info MSExchangeSA 9106 Offline address list gen eration started. - Exchange 2007 OAB 1254 Mar 12 07:23 Info MSExchangeSA 9117 OALGen successfully open ed a connection to Activ e Directory VPDC which w ill supply the current A ddress Lists. - Exchange 2007 OAB 1253 Mar 12 07:23 Info MSExchangeSA 9343 OALGen will use 'C:\Wind ows\TEMP\' as the tempor ary directory for offlin e address list generatio n. - /o=vision/cn=addrlists /cn=oabs/cn=Exchange 200 7 OAB As you can see it begins tripping up on Event ID 9109 but so far, for the life of me I cannot find a working solution to this.Exchange 07 sits on server 2008 STD x64 and is the only instance of exchange we have in the company.I've checked permissions on the address list containers and they appear to be ok. Honestly I don't know where else to lookAny suggestions would be gratefully received before I admit myself to an asylum!Paul

Hi,
Have you tried to manually generate the OAB using
Update-OfflineAddressBook OABName
See if it succeed or u get same error.
Also check whether the AddressList, which is part of this OAB, exists.
u can check this using
Get-OfflineAddressBook OABName |FL AddressList*
and then
Get-AddressList "ALReturnedbyAboveCmd"
OR
Get-GlobalAddressList "GALReturnedbyAboveCmd"
If get-addresslist returns error for that specific AL or GAL this means that they dont exist in your exchange server.

Hi Brian,Thank you also for your quick reply. I had previously set the log level to 'expert' so here is all that I got when kicking off a manual OAB update.Index Time Type Source EventID Message ----- ---- ---- ------ ------- ------- 340 Mar 12 11:57 Info MSExchangeSA 9107 Offline address list gen eration finished. - Exchange 2007 OAB 339 Mar 12 11:57 Erro MSExchangeSA 9334 OALGen encountered error ffffffff while initiali zing the offline address list generation process. No offline addr ess lists have been gene rated. Please check the event l og for more information. - Exchange 2007 OAB 338 Mar 12 11:57 Warn MSExchangeSA 9109 OALGen encountered an er ror ffffffff (internal I D 50506a8) while generat ing address list '/o=vis ion/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs /cn=Exchange 2007 OAB'. Check other logged even ts to see if this is a s erious error. - Exchange 2007 OAB 337 Mar 12 11:57 Info MSExchangeSA 9106 Offline address list gen eration started. - Exchange 2007 OAB 336 Mar 12 11:57 Info MSExchangeSA 9117 OALGen successfully open ed a connection to Activ e Directory VPDC which w ill supply the current A ddress Lists. - Exchange 2007 OAB 335 Mar 12 11:57 Info MSExchangeSA 9343 OALGen will use 'C:\Wind ows\TEMP\' as the tempor ary directory for offlin e address list generatio n. - /o=vision/cn=addrlists /cn=oabs/cn=Exchange 200 7 OAB
This output was from firstly running this cmdlet;Set-EventLogLevel "MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator" -Level ExpertThen manually run ning an OAB update then running the following cmdlet;Get-EventLog Application | Where {$_.Category -eq "OAL Generator"} | ft -Wrap > c:\oabevents.txtHopefully this was correct?Regards,Paul
