OAB Offline Address Book and Certificates
Installed Exchange Server 2007 on Windows Server 2003 with host transport configuration (no edge)
I am experiencing significant delays (hourglass) and freezing on Outlook 2007 clients when doing simple tasks in Outlook and when trying to do any type of messaging tasks. I also have some clients still running Outlook 2003 and do not have this issue on those machines.
The error I get when trying to download the offline address book is:
Task 'Microsoft Exchange' reported error (0x8004010F): 'The operation fialed. An object cannot be found.'
I believe the issue is related to downloading of the Offiline Address Book (have not been able to do so) and perhaps something with certificates that I may have messed up.
First: The 2003 clients have successfully downloaded the offline address book.
Second: When using webmail (OWA), I am able to see the list of addresses (not sure if it is using OAB directory or actual global directory)
Third: The directory with entries is created and exists
Fourth: (what I think the issue is but don't know how to fix) When I access webmail, I get an error about an invalid certificate. If I click 'Continue anyway' OWA works fine.
Also: Internally is I type https://webmail/owa I get the certificate error but if I enter https://hcs02/owa I do not.
I suspect that the Outllok 2007 clients are trying to access the OAB via the URL but is encountering the certificate issue and hanging.
How can I fix, undo, repair, assign certificate for the OAB?
Here are some more info pieces:
MX entry: mail.hillcrestcs.org
From outside the network, access webmail with https://webmail.hillcrestcs.org/owa
internal to the network access webmail with https://webmail/owa
Server name is HCS02 and FQDN entryis hcs02.admin.hcs-domain
Been trying to resolve for a couple weeks. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks?

I also just tried entering https://hcs02/owa into the internal URL for the OAB distribution and that did not work either.

Looks like a cert issue to me. Are you using the self-signed certificate, or did you create a new one? What Subject Alternate Names do you have on the cert? Presumably Out of Office doesn't work on Outlook 2007 clients too? What have you done around Autodiscover configuration? Here's some reading to get you on the right track:

Haven't completely solved this yet.
I still get the random hourglass in Outlook 2007 clients.
I can't yet download the OAB to 2007 clients, but Outlook 2003 clients successfully download the OAB and have the global userlist to select from when working offline.
I have set the URL for OAB to be the https://
I have deleted the OAB virtual directory and recreated it and can see the files in the directory in IIS.
Still can't seem to get them downloaded. What permissions need to be set for the OAB directory?
Thanks!

I am having the same issues with Outlook 2007 clients only. When I hit send/receive I get the offline address book hanging? Have you worked out what the issue is, I have checked Autodiscover, permissions on OAB folders, certificates, everything, and still no joy.
