OAL Generator errors query
HiI a getting an Event ID 9327 in the Application event log of one of my Exchange 2003 servers that is the OAB generator.OALGen skipped some entries in the offline address list '\Global Address List'. To see which entries are affected, event logging for the OAL Generator must be set to at least medium. - Offline Address List So, I have turned up Diagnostic Logging.Question though - is there a certain point at which this error is displayed? For instance, 10 errors, 1000 errors etc? And does ignoring this have any negative impact on the Exchange system as a whole? Also, once the logging was turned on, I am getting 9324 AND 9325 errors. Can anyone tell me the difference between the two? I understand the 9325 errors where it says the SMTP address is invalid - this can be fixed. However, I am getting a lot of 9324 errors as below; No User,OALGen will skip user entry 'User1' in address list '\Global Address List' because the legacyExchangeDN 'cn=user' is invalidAny ideas what is causing the above error? Many thanks in advance.

Hello Joe, This error logs when OAB generation is scheduled to update, it logs error depending on number of users have problem with either their proxy address or legacyexchangedn. Error 9325 and 9324 explains some error in their proxy address and legacyexchangedn respectively. Since you have enabled diagnostic logging you would receive user names who have problems and you can correct it manually as per KB926206. Event ID 9325 is logged when Exchange 2003 generates an offline address list http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926206 Or you can run OABinteg utility with proxy test explained in Example 3 of below article. Hi AmitThanks for responding..It's the 9324 errors that are causing my confusion; No User,OALGen will skip user entry 'User1' in address list '\Global Address List' because the legacyExchangeDN 'cn=user' is invalidWhat is a legacyexchangedn exactly, and how can it be invalid? Thanks

Well, legacyexchangedn is carried forward from 5.5 but still important in Exchange 200x to identify any Exchange object and it provide the location of object in their container OU. Details can be found in below article... Understanding the LegacyExchangeDN http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Understanding-LegacyExchangeDN.html Still mail communication in Exchange organization goes through identifying legacyExchangeDN so it should be unique and in below specific format, if it is not in correct format then many Exchange process generate problem at various level (in your case OAB since legacyExchangeDN of some users) and you need to verify the value of legacyExchangeDL of particuler users object with ADSIedit.msc /o=Organisation/ou=Administrative Group/cn= Recipients/cn=Username Normally, it might have problem with /o= or /O= missing so verify that.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
