Office 2010/Office General assistance

Hi All,

Have a bit of a weird problem, not necessarily relating to a particular office version (Tested Outlook 2010 & Outlook 2013). We have emails coming from SharePoint workflows, the mails appear in Outlook, showing as unread with the highlighted unread format and the unopened mail icon. When I open the mail (and mark it as read automatically) the formatting disappears, but the unread mail icon (above date) remains. Can't post images so unable to share a screenshot, but any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve,

If possible, would you please provide a screenshot to us via sending it to GBSD TN Office Information Collection ibsofc@microsoft.com?

Based on my research, the Outlook default message class is IPM.Note, which is necessary to control the icon display. This means the message class for the emails coming from SharePoint workflows must be IPM.Note for the icons to work.

If the message class for these SharePoint workflows emails is not IPM.Note, you described issue may happen. We can confirm this by displaying the Message Class field for your emails in table view. To do this, please follow:

1. Click the folder where these emails are stored.

2. Click View tab > View Settings, then click Columns button.

3. In the Show Columns dialog, under "Select available columns from" heading, select "All Mail Fields".

4. Find and select Message Class field, click Add button.

5. Now, you can see Message Class field shows in the right pane. Select Message Class, drag and then drop it to the top of the right pane list.

6. Click OK. Click OK again.

7. Check if these the message class for these SharePoint workflows emails is IPM.Note.

Please let me know the result.

Sorry for the delay. I checked your screenshot, the message class is IPM.Note.Custom.Microsoft.Workflow.2013 instead of IPM.Note. As I stated before, the Outlook default message class is IPM.Note, which is necessary to control the icon display. This problem happens more likely due to the improper message class.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the information, this is much appreciated.

Naturally, my next question would be - do you know if this message class could be changed (coming from SharePoint) or do you think I am best posting on a SharePoint help forum?

Thanks

Steve

Thank you for the update. Based on my research, the message class IPM.Note.Custom.Microsoft.Workflow.2013 means it uses a custom form for the SharePoint workflows emails. The IPM.Note prefix tells you that the designer based the SharePoint workflows email form on the default IPM.Note message form. If you want to change the message class, you need to contact the designer of the form.

Thanks,
