We are having a hard time figuring this out. Server is 2008 R2, fully patched. Office 2010 Standard works fine, but if we try to use 2010 Pro, everything launches except for Word. When you launch Word, there is no splash screen, nothing happens. If you try again, it asks if you want to open in Safe Mode, this does nothing either.

Yet Excel, OneNote, Powerpoint all open with no issue.

We are using an MSP, but we did on Standard as well but didn't run into this issue. Nothing stands out in the Application log. I had patched Office as well.

How many users are affected by this issue?

If only one user is affected, some Word components may have got corrupted, please repair Office from Control Panel -> Programs and Features to check the result.

If all users who have Office 2010 Professional meet the issue, it could be the error exists in the installation media, try to get a new one then install it, check if this makes a difference.

Including:

Delete the Word Data registry subkey
Delete the Word Options registry key
Rename the Normal.dot or Normal.dotm global template file
Disable the Startup folder add-ins
Delete the COM add-ins registry keys

I'll try those. This is a fresh install of the is on a new server. I installed from a network location. This is working on clients, only change we are making is to disable caching in outlook.

I did, didn't work.

There was no Data key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\

Deleted Word Options key, no change

No normal.dotm present

Nothing in the Startup folder

Deleted two OneNote COM addins, no change.

Don't know why this works, but installed Office Standard (Word works), then Professional Plus over top. Word still works and everything is activated as Professional Plus.
