Office 2013 update KB 2726958 Problem
Our pcs applied the latest round of Windows Updates yesterday and the Office Update KB2726958 caused the macros in Excel 2013 spreadsheets to stop working. Uninstalling just this update returned full functionality to Excel.
These are all Windows 7 64 bit machines connected to an AD domain with 32-bit Office 2013 Professional or Pro Plus.
Any machine that had applied the latest updates released on Tuesday suffered from this problem. Opening a .xlsm spreadsheet looked fine but users were unable to click on Macro buttons to e.g. load a userform.
I have spent 28 minutes on the phone trying to speak to somebody, anybody, in Support but no-one was interested so I am trying this forum instead.

references a different Update.
The answer from Troy Wickard about deleting the files in

works without having to remove the offending Update

Removing all *.exd files from C:\ drive solved my problems.
December 13th, 2014 9:39am
This, finally, fixed the problem for me (on 3 computers):
* Search & erasing all *.exd files then,
* Office program or suite: REPAIR (seems to fully reinstall, have keys or account info ready)
I have turned off all Office automatic updates... now...
I understand this is not a viable solution for those managing many computers.

Performing the steps in the link (http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2014/12/13/forms-controls-stop-working-after-december-2014-updates-.aspx) does
restore the ability to run button driven macros as well as add controls and buttons.
However, a task as simple as:
- Creating a new workbook.
- Saving as macro enabled workbook.
- Adding ActiveX form toggle button.
- Adding: msgbox "Toggle this!" to the change even of the newly added toggle button.
- Saving the workbook.
- Everything works great on this machine.
When the workbook is opened on another machine (I've tried several that can open and use other macro enabled workbooks with buttons and such.), the button appears, but the button and macro are not functional. Deleting the sheet
in the workbook causes Excel to crash.
Once I uninstalled KB2726958 on the machine where the workbook is created, I am able to perform the above with no issues. Of course, this is a temporary work around that will be clobbered by policy driven Windows /Office Updates the next time I restart.
HALP!

George. Thanks for your update.
This problem is worse than the Microsoft related articles imply. Note that for me, removing old %temp%...exd's did not workaround the ActiveX problems that this introduced. It caused all my workbooks with controls to fail - they simply do not
recognize ActiveX controls anymore. You could not even add one into a brand new workbook.
For the record I have Windows 7 with Excel 2010 SP2 (14.0.7140.5002 x64) AND Excel 2013 (15.4667.1002 x64) They both stopped recognizing ActiveX controls. The ONLY way to fix it was to REMOVE KB2553154 (I did not have KB2726958).
The same xlsm Workbook worked on other computers (Windows 8.1 / Excel 2013 and Windows Server 2012 / Excel 2010) - but fortunately, I do not do NOT do automatic updates - I just let it download them automatically. I will wait even longer from now on
and never install any recent ones.
Regards
Fred

Hi all,
Microsoft has release the fix when Dec.19, please try it with below link:

Hope it's helpful.

Ok, I've noticed this hack works. But I've also noticed that once Excel runs again, it puts a similar file back in that location. Should I be worried about this issue in the future?

Microsoft Fix it 51031 worked for me!

If you are in an enterprise environment and macros still do not work on client user profiles after all the updates are installed on machines, you can fix this issue by changing the Office 2010 GPO setting for Check ActiveX Objects to: Override IE kill
bit list
Office 2010 GPO > ADM > Microsoft Office 2010 > Security Settings > Trust Center > Check ActiveX objects: change to Override IE kill bit list
