I'm having diffuculty getting information on how to connect the various pieces. End goal is SSO and access to info either on the domain or in the cloud.

Sorry, I am not understand your description. Do you mean that you migrate to Office 365 but lost the conneciton of your local AD and SharePoint Access permission?
