Office Programs will not open

When I attempt to open PowerPoint 2013 (Windows 8.1 OS), this is the message I'm getting:

"We are unable to connect right now. Please check your network and try again later. Enter a product key instead."

When I try to enter a product key, this is the message I'm getting:

"Getting your new office ready for you. Hold on, this should only take a few moments." My internet connections are running properly, but I cannot get out of the message screen except thru Task Manager. Is there a fix for this?
