Office delivery status notification
We have several companies that have been sending us emails but getting the following message:
Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Delay) This is an automatically gererated Delivery Status Notification
THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.
Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.
Typically the emails contain attachments, but not always. This is a problem with 3-4 different companies we work with. We never receive the emails.
Is this a problem with our server settings or theirs?
If it is a problem with our settings, what do I need to change to receive?
We use server 2003 with sp2.

Always post the entire NDR. The problem might not be with your Exchange server--it might be your ISP. How large are the messages that are bouncing? Do you or your ISP have any antivirus or antispam systems between the sender
and Exchange, or on Exchange?

They should be able to see (in their SMTP log files) if your server is
rejecting either connections, senders, or messages (based on content).
You should be able to see connections from their servers in your SMTP
log files, and the status codes you send in response to commands sent
to your server.
If you don't see any connections from their IP addresses in your log
files then the problem usually lies outside Exchange.

Hi,
To clarify which server is the cause, you should confirm the generated server of the DSN. If the DSN was generated by your Exchange server, this means the email has already been accepted by your Exchange server. And it was processing the email by various
components which may cause the delay. Otherwise, the DSN was generated by the sending server, this implies the email still was not accepted by your server, and processed on the SMTP phase between the sending and receiving server.
Through the above steps, we can narrow down the cause. If possible, please post the DNS information here.
Thanks
Allen
