File you are trying to open, is in a different format than specified by the file version.

We have this issue for a whole folder of Office files. Tried opening the files from many different computers and have the same error.

Please advise as to any possible solution. We have combed the Internet for many days trying to fix the issue.

What is the exact error message you receive when trying to open these files?

Try the Open and Repair feature in Office programs such as Word, this usually fixes the issues in documents.

Open Word first, browse to the file, click the dropdown list beside the Open button, select Open and Repair.

Based on your error message, also change the file extensions to possible ones to have a try.
