Offline Address Book generation
We're having problems with our Exch07 offline address book. Our Exch is Sp2 and has all hotfixes and roll-ups installed. It is running on Win08Sp2 x64. The OAB is scheduled to regenerate at 5am. I made a change yesterday afternoon but the change has not replicated down to my clients. I looked at the OAB settings in the Exch Mgmt Console and tried to change the generation schedule to once every 6 hours instead of once a day. When I do this I get the following: Error: Address List or Global Address List "domain.local/Configuration/Deleted Objects/Resources DEL:bc74...(GUID here)" was not found. Please make sure you have typed it correctly. I checked the IIS under OAB and the GUID in the error and the GUID under OAB do not match. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Any advice on what to check would be appreciated. Thanks!We will never be an advanced civilization as long as rain showers can delay the launching of a space rocket.

The error part of this is resolved, I first did this on a management workstation that had the Exch tools installed and that's where I got the error. But when I make the schedule change directly on the Exch07 server it works fine. So now the only issue left is why is the OAB not updating on my clients? Hi,
You can generate the OAB manually. It seems that due to previous error OAB was not generated.
Have a look into it to generate the OAB manually, and then check your clients.

Just did some quick checking and found that the OAB is regenerating and some of my users have the new OAB and some do not. So it looks like the real question is why do some get the new/updated OAB and some do not? We will never be an advanced civilization as long as rain showers can delay the launching of a space rocket.

Hi,
The clients which dont have the updated OAB, have they tried to download the new OAB manually by going to
Outlook->Tool->Download Address Book?

The OAB is referring to a deleted address list. Can you remove that reference and try again?Active Directory, 4th Edition - www.briandesmond.com/ad4/

If you open the properties of the OAB in the Exchange Management Console (under Org Config>Mailbox), open the OAB and then there is a tab of included address lists. See if one in the list looks like that name you mentioned with the \0ADEL... in it. Remove it if so. Active Directory, 4th Edition - www.briandesmond.com/ad4/

Hi,Whether the Outlook was also running under Cached Mode for the users who have the new OAB? Whether the version of the Outlook is the same for the good users and problematic users?Whether any error message come up in Outlook or Event Log for the problematic users who don't have the new OAB?Please press Ctrl+right click the Outlook icon, select Test E-mail AutoConfiguration, click Test button, whether the OAB url could be retrieved for the problematic user.ThanksAllen

All the address lists look correct, however there are two with DEL in their name, Public FoldersDEL:feca2... and ResourcesDEL:bc74c52... Should I remove those?We will never be an advanced civilization as long as rain showers can delay the launching of a space rocket.

Allen, All users, both local as well as remote/Outlook Anywhere are using Cached Mode. All users are on the same version of Outlook 2007 Sp2. No errors in Outlook or Event Log AutoConfig tests all work 100%, reported URLs are correct. hWe will never be an advanced civilization as long as rain showers can delay the launching of a space rocket.

I removed the two entries and still am not getting a current copy of the OAB on my Outlook client. I know the OAB is generating because some users have the correct list. What else can I do to ensure I get this downloading properly? Thanks!We will never be an advanced civilization as long as rain showers can delay the launching of a space rocket.

Hi,
Thanks for your information. From your previous post, I understand that there have Outlook Anywhere clients in your environment. I would like to confirm whether the issue only occurred for non domain connected users or all they have.Additionally, whether the good users and the problematic users belong to the same store?Please understand that Outlook uses the msExchUseOAB attribute to the find the OAB which is resided in two places: the user object and the information store object.When the outlook client starts up, it will look at it's own user object in the AD to see the msExchUseOAB attribute, and if there is this will override the information store settings. If there is nothing, then a query for msExchUseOAB attribute on the information store object.Thus, you can use ADSI Edit tool to check the attribute and compare with others user.ThanksAllen

Hi Allen, All of our users are configured to use cached mode, all are joined to the domain. Some of the problem users are in a disconnected state, some are in a connected state. It appears that it has straightened itself out for now, but I'm concerned that future updates to the OAB will not distribute in a timely manner. I will monitor and use the ADSIEdit tool if it recurs. Thanks, DarhlWe will never be an advanced civilization as long as rain showers can delay the launching of a space rocket.
