OneDrive (for Business) built-in Windows 10 differences?

Hi,

We are going to deploy Windows 10 in our organization and later on we want to let users use OneDrive for Business.

Unfortunately OneDrive (for Business) - in Windows 10 - is a little bit confusing for us. Because Windows 10 already contains "OneDrive" and when we download the Office 365 installation package from http://portal.microsoftonline.com/ it installs another OneDrive but this is called "OneDrive for Business".

So my question is what is the difference between the built-in OneDrive in Windows 10 and the OneDrive for Business, downloaded, from the portal?

And is the built-in OneDrive in Windows 10 for both home users and for Business users?

I would like to thank you in advance,

Kind Regards,

Joris

OneDrive can be used to synchronize your files with your space on Microsoft OneDrive. It's like DropBox or other solutions.

OneDrive for Business can synchronize files as well, but it uses Sharepoint 2013 (both cloud and non-cloud version). So if you have Sharepoint 2013, you can keep internal files on your servers and still use synchronization.

Just a big note: If you start using OneDrive for Business and you decide to synchronize some company documents to your local drive, be aware, that synchronization is both-way. So if you will need to free some space and delete files from this local folder, they will be removed from Sharepoint document library as well.

Hi M.

Thank you for your fast reply. But this is not exactly what I mean.

We want to use OneDrive for Business. But OneDrive is already built-in Windows 10. So we definitely don't want our users to use the "normal" OneDrive (which is built-in) but only want our users to use OneDrive for Business.

So my questions; how do we get this to realisation? Can we change the built-in OneDrive to OneDrive for Business or how does this work?

Once again, thanks for your help!

Hi Jorisvk,

As MStoppl mentioned above, OneDrive for Business is different from OneDrive. OneDrive for Business is a part of Office 365 or SharePoint Server 2013, and OneDrive is another storage service that Microsoft offers.

Thus, I recommend you disable OneDrive in Windows 10 and use OneDrive for Business instead. Please see this article and follow it's steps:
