Open Exchange server from another Windows Domain
Hello. We recentlly aquired another company that has a different windows domain then ours, but they use Exchange 2007 like we do. We were gun-ho to convert their file server to our domain, but in the process also converted their Exchange server from their windows domain to our domain. Now users of the previous domain are unable to access their emails from their old Exchange server we converted to our domain. If we open the management console on their old Exchange server it opens to our domain Exchange server, and cannot see their domain exchange server files. Is there a way besides converting their server back to their original domain to access the Exchange server files? We still have their previous domain controller on that domain so we are contemplating installing exchange on that PC for them, but are unsure at the moment how to transfer the files over to it.

Did you put the old Exchange server onto the new domain or did you do some form of migration? I ask because not only can you not rename an Exchange server but neither can you re-domain one. The help desk tech who worked with the server changed their exchange server from their windows domain to ours. No special migration except changing it in the system properties and restarting.

You should sack that help desk tech. Like I said, you cannot re-domain an Exchange server. Are there any DCs left of the old domain? Theres an outside chance that you havent borked your Exchange server so badly that it cant be put back into the old domain and nursed back to life. Now this is as same as an Exchange server getting crashed due to hardware issue . And you rebuild a new server with same name as of old server , and then restore the database file from the backup Or copy the EDB file from old Exchange server and check the option this database can be overwritten by backup

Thank you Sunoy for your answer. Mark, sorry you could not come up with an appropriate answer that even answers the question. Mark, per my initial post: "We still have their previous domain controller on that domain so we are contemplating installing exchange on that PC for them, but are unsure at the moment how to transfer the files over to it."
