Outlook 2003 0kb Messages
Hello MsExchange 2007 Sp1 (R-UP 9), Outlook 2003 Sp2\3 CEM. I wondered if anyone has ever seen this before, or can offer any advice as to what might be causing this. Some users here are experiencing "broken messages", user 1 sends a message to user 2 and the message is sent and appears in the sent items with no message content, 0kb, and when they try and open the message they are prompted to "mark this message for download". As I said, the message is delivered to user 2, they get the message in their inbox and agin it is empty, 0kb and they are also prompted to mark the message for download. The message never fully downloads or appears for the sender or the recipient. We cannot find anything that any of the users experiencing this have in common, not on the same Mailbox server, Storage Group or Database, not in the same location, messages are not routed through the same HUB server, their mailbox's are not full or near the quota etc etc. The messages dont always contain attachments. Just wondered if anyone has seen this before, we think it might just be a local ost corruption issue, but we dont understand why this has suddenly started to happen. Any suggestions are welcome. Yes, does the issue happen when sending mail via OWA?
How many users encountered the issue?
Is there any error info or event?

I guess somewhere the logical pointers within database is not working properly. i would go for isinteg test on the database to correct the same isinteg -s <servernam> -test -fix -alltests Vinod

Thanks for your replies gents.We dont use OWA here, so I cannot give any experience of what happens using OWA.One user did report that the messages were not broken when they were read on a Blackberry, which kind of points to a local Outlook\PC issue. But we are not sure.There have only been about 20 or 30 instances of this (out of 900 users), and all, as stated in the first post are on different servers, Storage Groups and Mailbox Database's.CheersRob

Well, OWA is enabled by default so you can use it to test (via https://cas-servername/owa). I'd use OWA as a troubleshooting tool in this case, not as a permanent client solution. It will help to narrow down whether it's a client issue but it sounds like it could be with the BlackBerry test. Do your Outlook users run in cached mode? If there are a few specific users experiencing this issue, you might consider blowing away the OST file and creating a new one.Neil Hobson, Exchange MVP

Hey, thanks Neil. Good suggestions, and I have to admit it is a slightly strange issue.Our Deskside team have been creating new ost's and or profiles which seems to fix the issue in some cases, but it also returns again for some users.All our Outlook users run in Cached Mode (CEM), and they can see the broken\empty 0kb messages in their Sent Items or Inbox, as an Exchange Admin i can obviously open their mailbox's too and if I open their Mailbox's in Online mode (non cached) from My PC, I see these broken messages too. Please try to move the one of the problematic mailboxes into different store, such action can fix the certain corruption on the mailbox
