We receive a large number of daily email reports that include several graphs in png format per email.

The problem is that Outlook 2007 and 2010 cache images, this means that reports will randomly display cached images from previous days, therefore I can't trust that I am seeing accurate information via Outlook.

Is there a way to prevent Outlook from caching images/content?  I've been unable to find a way of doing this so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for the response.

We don't use Microsoft Exchange server, we use a non microsoft POP/SMTP email server, therefore the options in the article are not available in Microsoft Outlook.

An example of the problem if it helps:

1) Email received on Monday, Subject: Security Report 1, includes three graphs, 1.png, 2.png and 3.png

2) The same report is received on Tuesday, once again with three graphs, 1.png, 2.png and 3.png

3) The problem is that upon looking at email received on Tuesday, Outlook may (and its intermittent) use a cached copy of the image from Monday in the email preview pane. 

If you manually open the email it will force Outlook to load the content properly, however having to open each new mail in a new window to force a reload isn't practical.

The problem occurs on Windows XP and Windows 7, using Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 (which I was hoping would have fixed this).

As you can imagine, if you can't trust the accuracy of what is being displayed, I can't use Outlook, so if there is a way to fix this it would be great.

I have a similar issue with a client. They are using standard POP mail, no MS Exchange server. They receive daily HTML emails that include images. The images are embedded and called by:

 

<img border=3D0 width=3D150 =height=3D75 id=3D"Picture_x0020_1" src=3D"cid:myident1" alt=3D"745302 - =image.jpg">

 

The emails are not stored on a server, they are all downloaded locally. However, if the client opens up one email, then another, the images from the first replace those of the second and this affects both viewing and printing. Although the images are uniquely named, Outlook (2010 / Windows 7) seems to revert to the previous email's images. There is an ID tag series which is common to the emails, it looks like Outlook assumes these are identical files.

Clearing the IE cache, forcing it to check for new pages/files each time does not work.

Is there another way to prevent Outlook from caching images?

This is not a mail server issue, this has to do with outlook caching images in an HTML email.  The images are located on a website.

Did you ever get this solved?
