Outlook 2007 draft email windows closing and losing unsaved changes
Hi,

The company where I work uses Exchange.  I have Outlook 2007 on my work PC.  When I create a message, type in text, etc... then at one point Outlook will automatically save the draft, or I will do CTRL-S to save it in order to avoid losing what I am writing.

The issue is that when I keep going and type more text into the message, then, if I leave that message window (leaving it opened though) to go to another application to do something, I might not think of saving the extra text I have entered.  And since I am very busy, sometimes I might let the message window opened for a long time.  So if I go into the main Outlook window to look at a few emails I have received, and then by mistake I just click on the draft message (that are saved by default in the Inbox - my choice of doing so for practicality), then even if I don't double click to reopen it but just a single click to see what's in it in the preview pane, then the draft email window will close automatically and I will lose all the extra text I had entered in it.  This has been happening for a few months and it is really annoying...  I have to think of saving my message before leaving the message window otherwise I lose my work if I stumble upon that draft in my inbox.  Normally the draft's window should remain opened even if I go back to the main Outlook window and click or go over that email with the arrow keys... but it just closes.  I've worked for years with Outlook and have never seen such behavior before.

Anyone has ever seen this happened and knows what's wrong ?

Thanks !

Sorry, I have never seen this behavior either. Outlook would not close the composing message windows itself without reason. To avoid this, I suggest that you set automatically save items that have not been sent after X minutes and save it the "Drafts" folder (The option is under Tools > Options.)

On the other hand, save the writing message at any proper time is also a good habit for users. Thanks.
