Outlook 2007 pop up about autodiscover
If autodiscover is available only with Outlook 07+ exch 2007, how about exchange 2003?Which leads me to my main question...an employee visited a client's office and while retrieving email with Outlook 2007 to our exchange 2003 server the employee received a pop up prompting to download "autodiscover.domain.com" The employee clicked no because it was unfamilar to the users. So is it possible for a user with only Outlook 2007 that connects to an exchange srv 2003 to be configured for autodiscover service? It hasn't reoccurred but the employee has been in the main office since then. However the employee will return to the location a few more times.I'm just trying to figure out why it prompted the employee to download it when we don't have exchange 2007..and thought to share?

Once Outlook 2007 is connected to an Exchange 2003 server it will not use Autodiscover. Do you have any Exchange 2007 servers in your environment? Was this user trying to setup a new Outlook profile?http://exchangeexchange.com

Hi,
Please understand that the Autodiscover service is available for Outlook 2007 clients, it is only working associated with the Exchange 2007. Outlook 2007 uses two discovery mechanisms to fetch settings: Autodiscover and Common Settings Discover. In theExchange 2003, it first tries to use Autodiscover, since no SCP object exists in the AD, it will fail and turn to the predefined URL (https://autodiscover.domain.com/). That is also not available. If standard Autodiscover attempts fail, Outlook tries to configure simple Exchange connections to an earlier version of Exchange server by using the Exchange mailbox server property.
Thanks
Allen

I understand now, the challenge is trying to tell users without them asking more WHY WHY WHY questions. Thanks for all the replies!!!
