Outlook 2010 Exchange 2010 Read Receipt Request for all emails cannot be switched OFF.

I have a strange situation with an Outlook 2010 client using Exchange 2010. The user has Outlook configured so that Under Options/Mail/Tracking - that "Read receipt confirming the recipient has viewed the message" is turned off. Yet everytime she sends a message, the option to request pops up on the recipient's outlook.

I have tried to toggle the option on and off to no avail. I can switch the Delivery Receipt request on and off and it is no issue.

Can anyone tell me what attribute in ADSIEdit or Exchange is that seems to be stuck ON?

Hi,

I believe you would like to block this only for the user and not for your ORG... ??

Although, you can block this for your entire ORG.

what happens is that the Read receipt contains a "Disposition-Notification-To"

If we get rid of this header we can restrict the receiver to get that prompt.

we can create a Transport rule either for the entire org or for that specific user by making an adjustment in the "exception tab"

for more info refer this blog.

Hi John

Thanks for the response. I am not trying to block anything really. One user out of 30,000 seems to have a flag for "request read receipt for all emails" permanently toggled ON even though the setting is NOT checked for this in her options. So I can only assume there is a dodgy flag on an entry in ADSI. So I am asking if anyone knows WHAT the AD entry is for this setting that is applied in Outlook.

Hmmmm...

ideally its  not a very good idea to go to ADSI... it can also be a outlook client issue.

as far as I know this is a Outlook feature and not controlled by any AD attribute for the user

Try and add an exception to the user transport rule..

I'll keep you posted if I come across anything in adsi which affects this function.

Have you tried recreating a outlook profile or re-installing the OUtlook client on the affected users machine.

Thanks & Regards

Hi nickmoff,

According to your description, I understand that all message send out from someone and recipient has be requested a read receipt, however sender dont enable this option.

I agree with Chris. Please ensure all Exchange account or some special account face this issue, otherwise you can login OWA with problematic account and try again.
Note: please ensure the Request a Read Receipt is unchecked before sending.

If it works well in OWA, it indicate that the issue is related to Outlook client. Please try run Outlook client with safe mode to prevent add-ins and virus factor, or re-create a outlook profile for testing.

Hi All.

I am not going to go as far as adding a transport rule to stop a read receipt.

I will try OWA and see. But still amazed that there does not seem to be a deep setting in Powershell that controls whether the read receipt is requested for all emails.
