Outlook 2010 Online Mode Quick Search Issue

We are using Outlook 2010, Online Mode with Exchange Online.

When we use Quick Search in the folder:

  • there are about 5 emails with subject "SRX123456" in the inbox.
  • When we search SRX, only 2 emails come out
  • When we search 456, no result comes out.
  • When we search 123, many result comes out but some result does not have 123 in subject nor content.

How can we check for this issue?

Where does the problem come from? Outlook or Exchange?

Hi,

the search in Outlook only finds word with the beginning of the search term. Outlook doesn't know wildcards like "*" or "?". But your result of the search with "SRX" seems not ok.

It looks like that the index of the mailbox is corrupt. When Outlook is in Online Mode the search goes to the Exchange. Maybe when you rebuild the indexing for the mailbox that can solve the problem with your results.

When the mailbox is moved to another database the index will be rebuild.

Another solution is the use of the cached exchange mode. I would prefer that. The search is than in the local ost-file.

If you want to use wildcards you can use the windows desktop search. It's even better than the outlook search.

Futher information can you find here http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/searchcommands.htm#email

I hope that helps.
