Outlook 2013 can't preview Office files
I run Office 2013 Home and Business. I've just realized that Outlook 2013 refuses to preview Word, Excel and Powerpoint files saying "This file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer"... and so on. After downloading the file I won't open either.

I finally came across solution allowing to open such downloaded files by modifying (=disabling) all Protected View components in Office apps, which in fact seems ridiculous for me as I used to run Office 2010 and the earlier solution (a bar with warning about opening a file from Internet) was just fine to live with. What's the purpose of this feature if one has to disable it to have Office apps working?!

Anyway, I'm able to open those files now.

However, modifying the Protected View options in other Office apps hasn't made Outlook preview working - how can I turn it back again?

Hi,

Check to see whether you have turn on attachment previewing.

1.Click File > Options > Trust Center.
2.Under Microsoft Outlook Trust Center, click Trust Center Settings.
3.Click Attachment Handling.
4.To turn on the attachment previewers, do as the following:
Uncheck the Turn off Attachment Preview box.
Click the Attachment and Document Previewers box, and then uncheck each previewer you want to turn on.

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately it has not solved the problem.

The Attachment Preview has been turned on from the very beginning.

I tried to disable and re-enable Word, Excel and Powerpoint previewers one by one but it hasn't helped as well.

This issue has been commonly reported by users so I believe there's a but in Outlook itself.
