Outlook 2013 incorrectly reporting item count and unread item count

Outlook 2013 is set to connect to 2xmailboxes on a remote Exchange and 1xmailbox on a local Exchange.

Outlook will randomly misreport the number of unread items and also the total number of items. As an example a folder with 100items of which 10 are unread will report "0 items" in bottom left status bard and doesn't indicate "10 items" unread in said status bar nor to the right of the folder. This affects all but the 1st mailbox in Outlook, the first and second mailboxes are on remote Exchange and the third is on local exchange.

Cached Exchange mode is enabled else Outlook is to slow on remote mailboxes. This issue occurs whether cached Exchange mode is set for all email or even only 6months of email. This issue randomly fixes itself or can be forced to resolve by deleting the local cache folder data then re-syncing.

Other issues include folders disappearing from favorites and Outlook opening with folders collapsed rather then remembering which folders where expanded and selected. This occurs after Outloko restart or PC then Outlook restart but again is random.

The number of item's per folder is well below a thousand however there are a plethora of folders. I've a feeling this is down to the number of folders and folder tree being expanded and left expanded....

1. Is there a limit on the amount of folders in a mailbox?

2. Is there a limit on the number of folders Outlook 2013 can support over one or multiple mailboxes?

3. Is there a process, Indexing/Search, which periodically scans through all folders to update the item count and unread item count?
