Outlook 2013 unable open .pst after upgrade

All was fine on the desktop system whilst on 8.1; system upgraded to 10 and now Outlook 2013 is unable to open the Outlook.pst file.

Have tried creating a new profile and still the same, also, tried the /resetnavpane switch and still the same problem.

The actual message is:  Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The file C:\Users\*****\Documents\Outlook Files\Outlook.pst cannot be opened.

Any suggestions would be helpful,

Many thanks,

Colin

Thank you, however the referred page is for Office 2003, so there's no way I would run those tools without further info.

Also, this has happened purely because of the 'upgrade' from 8.1 to 10.

It would appear that I will have to revert to 8.1 until Windows 10 is more suitable for mass distribution.

Thanks,

So, I presume that your PST file is still there at it's old location?

Is this your only PST file for that profile?  If not, did you have a password on the PST file?

I'd recommend that you use the Mail icon in the "traditional" control panel to review the settings for your profile.  You might even consider creating a new PST file as the primary... just to get Outlook operational again.  After that, you can attempt to load the "old" PST file and copy the contents into the "new" one.

Hi Colin,

Please try the following steps to fix the issue:

1. Browse to the file location 'C:\Users\*****\Documents\Outlook Files\' that is mentioned in the error.

2. Right click on the Outlook.pst file and choose Properties.

3. Under the Security tab, click the Edit button.

4. Highlight user account and give yourself the Full control permission.

5. Click OK. Click OK again.

6. Restart Outlook to see if this issue persists.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help Steve--your simple targeted fix was right on the money. Did not have this problem after updating from 8.1 to 10 on 8/3.  The problem appeared spontaneously after the automatic Win 10 update on 8.19. Apparently the properties on the Outlook pst file were changed as a result of the update because I did not have the problem until that event.  I'm moving back to 8.1 until Win10 has more of its bugs worked out.
