I am facing an issue where outlook opens the incorrect file from time to time. It opens up the correct program but wrong file. I tried recreating the profile and rebooting. None have seemed to work if the community has any ideas please let me know.

Please try clearing the Secure temp folder
Here is the path for the same.

Outlook 2007 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Security
Outlook 2010 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
Outlook 2013 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Security

Step 2: Get to the folder
1.Open the OutlookSecureTempFolder registry key from the location provided in Step 1.
2.Copy the path from the key.
3.Open Explorer
4.Paste the address in the Address Bar and press Enter

Run Offcat Tool and please let me know if it has given any error

Hello,

This is not something controlled by MS Outlook but by Windows. Microsoft Outlook just open whatever application you have set as default for that file extension in Windows Control Panel.
