Outlook and Exchange Server

I am trying to connect my Outlook 2013 to my new company's exchange server; however, I am having some difficulties. I believe it is an MS Exchange server - currently I connect via the MS Outlook WebApp

Note - I am using MS Outlook 2013 on a Windows 8 VM (Parallels) on my MacBook Pro.

When I attempt to connect to the exchange server:

File > Add Account > Manual setup or additional server types > Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service -> I get the following error: "A new Microsoft Exchange account cannot be manually configured while Outlook is running.... etc". I close Outlook 2013 and proceed to add the server based on the directions.

Control panel > Mail (Outlook 2013) (32bit) [note- my windows is 64bit] > Email Account > Email > New > Manual setup or additional server types > Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service

This works, and I enter my details; however, when I select 'Check Name' the following error is raised:

"The action cannot be competed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action"

I have not been able to get past this step despite spending quite some time searching for an answer.

Thank you for any help or feedback.

Hi,

a. If you use RPC over HTTP, I suggest you use this tool to do a test, If there is any error, please paste here in your next post.
Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer

b. If you are using MAPI or any other protocols, please check the firewall setting on your computer, disable firewall and anti-virus software to have a try.

This issue also occurs when the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders registry key does not contain all of the required data. You can check this kb to follow the resolution:

Outlook: Unable to perform a Check Name or connect to an Exchange mailbox

Another one of the possible causes is that you are using Microsoft Office Outlook and you disable the Encrypt data between Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Exchange profile setting. The default configuration for Exchange Server 2013 requires RPC Encryption from the Outlook Client, this prevents the client from being able to connect. Also check the solution in this kb:

Outlook connection issues with Exchange mailboxes because of the RPC encryption requirement
