Outlook calendar does not show items created via the 'Diary' shortcut from my inbox

I have been using the Diary shortcut from my inbox for years, and it has now stopped working.  Here's what happens:

1.  I read an email and want to put it in my calendar, so I click on Diary.

2. The usual calendar popup appears, I specify the date and time and save it.

3.  I view my calendar - the item does not appear.  Even if I close and open Outlook, it does not appear.

4.  I repeat the process, this time calendar warns me that this appointment conflicts with another appointment (the one I made in step 2, I assume), although this other appointment is invisible.  When I do steps 1 and 2 and I specify a time for NOW, Outlook even gives me a reminder popup that the event is due, when I 'Open Item' the appointment I can see it, but once again, as soon as I close it, it does not show up in any of my calendar views.

Any help much appreciated.

Ah - worked it out!

I started using Google Apps and had my calendar default set incorrectly, so the entries were made to a calendar I wasn't viewing.

I've now changed my default calendar and everything is well!
