Outlook client finding new mail server
When migrating amailbox from Exchange 2000/2003 to Exchange 2007; Outlook seemsto automatically find the new mailbox server the user is located on. However, if we've decommissioned the old Exchange 2000 server and the user now opens Outlook for the first time sincetheir mailboxmoved, they get an error stating their folders could not be opened and we have to manually point their Outlook client to the new mailbox server. Is this normal behavior? Am I going to have to bring back online the (and reload exchange) on the decommissioned Exchange Server?

The old server has to be online for the redirection to work automatically. I think you may be able to workaround this issue by creating a new 'A' record in DNS for the old server name but I've never tested this myself.Neil Hobson, Exchange MVP

Hi,
Base on my experience, once all the outlook users has accessed their mailbox on Exchange Server 2007 via outlook for the first time, you can drop that Exchange 2000 server.
So please let that server alive for some time to wait all the outlook users find the new Exchange Server.
Best regards,
Xiu
