Outlook duplicate folders in inbox

Dear Sir / Madam,

One of my users is dealing with a strange problem. She has created lots of folders and subfolders in her inbox and outlook duplicates the folders in her inbox. It’s happening everyday and really randomly.

Do you have any suggestion how to fix it?

P.S: we are not Mdeamon mail server.

Thanks and regards,

Bahman

Hi,

Thank you for using Microsoft Office for IT Professionals Forums.

From your description, you haven’t mentioned which mail server you are using. If your mail server is Microsoft Exchange, please take the following suggestion.

First please verify if duplicated folder can be found in OWA (Outlook Web Access).

Also you can check with MFCmapi.exe.

If we cannot find duplicated folders from OWA or MFCmapi , it could be an outlook related issue. You can try the following steps:

Create a new outlook profile:

Create a new pst to fix the corrupted data issue.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/open-change-or-close-outlook-data-files-HA010355609.aspx

If we can find duplicated folders from OWA or MFCmapi, you can try to follow the steps in article below to solve the problem.

How to remove duplicate folders in Outlook when connected to an Exchange Server mailbox

Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for you, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely

Rex Zhang

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

You can consider to create a new outlook profile at first.

If not working, try to create a new PST file for test.

In addition, If there is a mobile device actived by user for managing mails, it might affect the mailbox.

Best regards

I have resolved the issue buy following below steps.

Taken full mailbox permission

configured user outlook profile in online mode

Taken PST backup by export option

clicked on both calendar folders and identified one folder is having very less items, them changed calendar view by category. selected all entries and simply drag and drop to the actual calendar folder, later deleted duplicate folder by right and delete option in outlook

Similarly moved the data from other default system folders and deleted duplicate folders.

Now issue resolved and user is happy.
