Hello

I was setting up a new user in outlook and when i chose the server and the user which is setup in exchange, it created a local .pst folder for the data under the users local account on the PC.  Does anyone know how to change the path to the exchange user account?  I have not seen this in the past.  When i look at the settings for the data file everything looks ok and pointing to the server.  thanks for any help

Do you want to point emails to the another location or path in you PC?

If you want to change the path of emails, Click Data files TAB on account settings, Click add and create outlook data file. then select that file path and click set as Default.

I am trying to have it point to the exchange server for the user of the PC.  It now points to the local .pst file drive:\Users\<username>\Documents\Outlook Files.  thanks

I didnt understand your question either. Where do you want to point the local .PST file to? What do you mean the exchange server you want to point it to?

We use exchange and i want to point it to that database where the user has an account.  Right now it is pointing locally on the PC for the data file.  the user can send and receive e-mail within the network, but nothing comes from outside.  I hope this explains it.. thanks

A .pst file is the LOCAL copy of your mailbox and settings, it's counterpart, the .ost file, is the online version which is stored on the servers of whoever hosts your email.

A local .pst file will always be created when setting up an Exchange account in Outlook, as this is how you can access your emails when you are not connected to the internet.

If you are not able to send and receive to external recipients the local .pst file is not the issue, regardless of where it is located.

If you are having issues receiving email from external sources I would suggest checking your DNS records, specifically your MX records, to ensure they are set up correctly.

Turns out it was not any of the problems i thought it was... the spam filtering we use needed to be updated with the users e-mail.  thanks for all the help!
