Outlook pst file seriously corrupted?
Hello guys.

I have been using MS Outlook 2007 from a last couple of years. First I used it on Win 7, but now I'm using it on Win 8. I never faced corruption issue while using Outlook in Win 7. Last week I was trying to open one of .pst file, but I couldn't. I received this error: "Outlook.pst is not a personal storage folder file". I searched about this error on some forums and most of them declared it a corruption error. So I tried SCANPST.EXE to determine the main problem behind this error. It didn't show any error. It seems SCANPST.EXE is not able to fix it. Is there any other way to fix this corruption, if it is corruption? Or, is it possible to resolve this error without using any paid pst recovery software?

Please help me.

Regards.

See next free handy solutions:

1) This happens when Outlook is not closed properly.  Sometimes, an add-in will keep Outlook open in the background and you won't know it.  Then, when you reboot or shut off your computer and go back into Outlook, it will tell you it is corrupt.

2) Most think that because a .pst file is local that the only limit is that of the hard drive. This is not true, you have a limited size that your .pst file can get to be. It's best not to push the limit or you will eventually have a headache trying to resolve it. I've noticed that a lot of people forget their Deleted Items folder, remember this counts against your .pst file so clean it out on a regular basis. Create another .pst file, or an archive.pst. Where as size is the number one corruption, other things such as add-ons and/or viruses can cause .pst files to become corrupted. As long as you use common sense then issues like this can easily be avoided.

If free these actions, couldn't help you, you may use next method

It is certainly a corruption issue and as it is not solved yet, I would like to suggest a third-party software. The error "Outlook.pst is not a personal folder file" means the file is either corrupted or invalid. And due to this Outlook can't identify the file as .pst. If SCANPST.EXE has been already used to fix this corruption and failed, this means the corruption is severe and can only be fixed by a third-party tool. I have faced such a situation a couple of weeks ago and successfully fixed it with the help of Outlook Repair Toolbox application. It recovered all my crucial emails and my Outlook mailbox data and saved them into a new file. You can also check its demo version before buying http://www.pst.repairtoolbox.com/

Hi,

For your issue, I recommend you trying to create a new outlook profile to test this issue.

1.Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.Double-click the Mail icon.

3.In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles.

If you want to be able to select a specific profile each time you start Outlook, click the General tab, click Prompt for a profile to be used, and then click Add.

4.In the New Profile dialog box, under Profile Name, type a descriptive name for the new profile, and then click OK.

5.In the E-mail Accounts dialog box, select Add a new e-mail account in the e-mail options, and then click Next.

6.Click the type of server that your e-mail account works with, and then click Next.

7.Complete all of the required fields, including those that are on the tabs that appear after you click More Settings.

8.When you finish providing the required information, click Finish.

Hope it does help.
