Hi,
I hope you haven't Renamed your MSN account.
If so, it seems we cannot undo it.
Check the following article:
It is not easy (and in rare cases not possible) to "undo" a rename. For example, if you rename an MSN account, you can't rename it back, or if you created your account in one country and are renaming it in a different country, you won't be able to rename it
back to your original account unless you travel back to your original country. Be very sure of your decision.

Best regards,
I have not renamed my account. Somehow Outlook.com has changed my hotmail.com account page. I think Microsoft is trying to "Preview" their new product on my Hotmail account. ...unfortunately, now when I log into my mcnamara5@hotmail.com account, it automatically becomes an Outlook account and I can see my first page as emails pile up but cannot open them. I did not change anything. Please help...
The cog wheel is inactive too. ...so I cant click it to switch back to Hotmail. I would like to switch back to Hotmail. Here is the error on my Hotmail/Outlook page;

If you didnt rename your account, then on the outlook.com email window - right top corner, there is an option with the name settings -> click on that and select Switch back to hotmail
If you face any issue - try with Internet explorer

"settings" will not respond to click. What do you mean by try with Internet explorer?

Usually switch back to hotmail will work on all the browsers.. not sure why it is not working for you :(
And.. Internet explorer will be installed by default in Windows Operating system. Go to Start -> Run -> type iexplore
Internet explorer will open up for you.. login to outlook.com and try to switch back

I have same problem I hate Outlook
one way in which is complicated is to register Hotmail with Microsoft Account
you can open and read most of the time but it is not a good solution
