Overwritten Mailbox?
Hey everyone, Not sure if this is the right section to be posting in, moderators please move if needed. We recently installed a new SBS2007 server with Exchange 2007. All accounts were created and mail was successfully moved over to our server from our old hosting service. The other day one of our users was unable to login to any of the computer in the domain. All settings looked appropriate and I could not find the source of the problem. So I decided it would just be easier to delete the user account and set up a new one. When prompted to delete or save the users mailbox and shared folders I selected save. I made a new user with the same user name and email as the old user. While creating the user it said it was creating a new user mailbox. After user setup completed the user the user checked his mail through OWA and there was only the welcome message in the inbox. I checked the management console and there are no disconnected mailboxes. When the new user was created did it overwrite and delete all the old mail since it had the same mailbox name? Can the mail be recovered? Thank you in advance for your help. *Update* Only 3 messages appear in OWA although the exchange management console says there are 5 messages.

Does the old mailbox appear as a disconnected mailbox? If so, you should be able to disable the new (empty) mailbox and reconnect the old mailbox to the new user account. If the old mailbox does not appear as a disconnected mailbox, you should run the Clean-MailboxDatabase cmdlet to cause it to appear as a disconnected mailbox.-aseigler

Hi,You can try the Alex's method to check whether the disconnected mailbox is avaiable in the UI. If not, please run get-mailbox command to check it. If there it is, please use connect-mailbox to reconnect the mailbox to the new account. There is one article to state this issue:http://exchangeshare.wordpress.com/2008/04/27/cant-see-deleted-mailbox-in-disconnected-mailbox-under-recipient-configuration/ThanksAllen
