POP3/IMAP Problem
I have a Win 2003 server With ISA 2006 with a exchange 2003 server behind it andI have a person that wants to pop so I set it up on his laptop and he can't seem to pop orimapanything, He gets a password box over and over. It is a mail server and SMTP works fine. I tried to pop and imap from a pc on the local network and I get the same username and password box even though they are correct, But the box still pops up. Is there anyway I can get this working?
Thanks.

Came across something similar with a user who could not login to the IMAP server, though MAPI and POP worked OK (well relatively, POP kept insisting on downloading many previous read and deleted messages but that's another story)
The setup we have is a Win 2003 server with Exchange 2003 SP2. The problem turned out to be a '%' character in the password, which for some peculiar reason seems to get expanded resulting in a 'VA1 BAD Protocol Error: "Unexpected additional characters at the end of command"' error being returned.
You can check for this type of issue by telnet ing directly into the IMAP server and trying to login using the VA1 LOGIN command ...
o telnet <server> 143
o VA1 LOGIN <username> <password>
I seem to remember a similar issue to do with the '#' symbol but that was fixed in SP1.
Astonishingly there is a workaround for this ridiculous behaviour without having to change the user's password. You can enclose the password in quotes to prevent any characters being expanded. I guess this then precludes the possibility of using quotes in your password, unless you can escape them of course.
Gotcha's like this make life interesting don't they !

Helped me out - had issue with GFI NSM - after adding quoations it got it sorted - pass has symbols due to password complexity requirements
