POP3 Problem?
Hello, I have exchange setup with POP3 enabled. Exchange accounts work on the internal network. If I setup a POP3 account from within the internal network it works... If I try to collect mail with POP3 from outside the network it doesn't work right. From the accounts setup in outlook the 'Test Settings' button returns success... When I 'Send/Recieve' all goes well (No Errors) but also NO MAIL. Any ideas??Thanks,Ernst.

are you sure that you have opened POP3 on your firewall too? try telnet to port 110 from internet and see of that responds. if so then try sending email

Ok... I can sent email. I can telnet to port 110. Since the outlook client doesn't report errors with the negotiation then isn't it safe to assume that it finds and connects to the server? If so then wouldn't the problem reside with exchange?Seems a little weird to me.Ernst.

I am running Exchange 2003. As far as the security logs are concerned there was multiple Success Audit entries. It seems like everything is working. Is there somewhere else I should check? Here are a few lines from the Security logs...

If you can telnet to port 110 from outside of your network you can run some more tests. Check out the link below which will help troubleshoot from the command line. You can also bring up Outlook Express or Thunderbird to try downloading mail via POP3.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/196748-alex
