POP3 connector issue in Exchange server of SBS2003-R2
Hello, I have a Exchange server in SBS2003 R2 for 2 FQDN's , with pop connectors te retrieve email from external mailboxes. So,: DNS mailforward assures all mail of domain FQDN2 goes to 1 box (gmail) where it is picked up by the connector (through stunnel for SSL). The connector is configured as general mailbox for domain FQDN2 In normal cases ('To' address is listed as one of the existing addresses of one of the users in AD), everything goes well (except to the wrong FDQN, but in the current config, that's not critical). However, when sending a mail to UnknownName@FQDN2 then the message is lost although on the troubleshooting tab of the POP connector I have set to send all undelivered mail to the mailAdmin account WHen looking in the detailed log I see : 1) the message for 'UnknownName' comes in from the gmail account 2) domain substitution is done and the mail is said to be forwarded to the UnknownName@FQDN1 mailbox No error or warning is sissued, although no such mailbox or address is existing in AD. And the message is lost, instead of being delivered to the mailAdmin As the initial mail got delivered, nobody is informed about an error in a mail address and message is lost. I have 2 questions: 1) why is the mail forwarded to FQDN1 instead of FQDN2 (FQDN1 was the initial and prime FQDN) 2) why are the mail to the unknown mailadress not delivered to the mailAdmin? Thanks in advance, CHristof

Pop Connectors are typically problematic. I would ask this in the SBS forum for a better response: https://connect.microsoft.com/sbs08/community/discussion/richui/default.aspx
