Password Change in OWA (2003) broke; now I can't fix it
Hi -- (SBS 2003 SP2, Exchange 2003 SP2) Some time ago, I had set up the Change Password functionality in OWA as described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297121. Last week I got a complaint from a remote user that he couldn't change his password through this Change Password button. I checked it out and confirmed his problem. Whenever a user clicks on the Change password button, he gets (got) the following IIS error: -------------------------------- You are not authorized to view this page The Web server you are attempting to reach has a list of IP addresses that are not allowed to access the Web site, and the IP address of your browsing computer is on this list. Please try the following: Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page. HTTP Error 403.6 - Forbidden: IP address of the client has been rejected. Internet Information Services (IIS) -------------------------------- I reviewed the entire setup per the KB article above, and couldn't find anything wrong. I then followed the troubleshooting steps outlined in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833734 (except for the part about editing the metabase). Now I'm not getting that error 403.6 any more -- I'm not getting anything at all. When I click on the Change Password button, nothing happens. I restarted IIS. Nothing. I removed the IISADMPWD virtual directory, restarted IIS again, recreated the IISADMPWD directory and restarted IIS again. Nothing. I don't know how this broke, or why I seem to have made it worse. But I need to get this working again. Any suggestions? Thanks CL

The error means what it says - you have IP address restrictions on there somewhere. Could be on the virtual directory, or on the web site in IIS. Do you have ISA server as well? That can do similar things. Simon. Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

The problem is that there aren't any ... That Virtual Directory was set up with exactly the same access as the OWA application itself. Everyone can get into OWA; now no one can access that Change Password app. Or rather couldn't ... After following that troubleshooting article, now it seems that the app doesn't launch at all. Nobody is getting the IIS error anymore, because nothing happens when they click on the Change Password button. CL

Hi Chuck, Before you follow the KB article did you make any backup? You'd better restore to previous status then try some relative solutions. Please feedback your situation. Thanks.Rowen TechNet Community Support
