Pin Number required for Mobile 6.1 devices?
We are starting to get employees that are gettting PDAs running Windows Mobile 6.1. Whenever they set up their exchange account on their phone the phone is REQUIRING them to enter in a 4 digit PIN to unlock their phone. The phone locks every 5 minutes and then requires them to put in this pin and it is very aggravating. The option to turn OFF this "feature" is greyed out and it ONLY happens once they set up their exchange account. The Phone manufactures (HTC, Samsung, etc.. ) Tech support and the carriers (Verizon, AT&T) tech support have narrowed this down to some kind of policy or security setting within Exchange. What would be causing this and how can this be turned off? Any information to help out with this would be greatly appreciated as I am affected by this too and it is a pain in the rear to have to unlock my phone every 5 minutes.

You don't say what release of Exchange you're running, but whetherit's 2003 or 2007 those are both choices you made on the policy youenforce from the Exchange organization.Once those policies are accepted on the device you can't "un-set" themby removing the selections from the policies. To remove them requiressome registry editing or a hard reset of the device.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP---

Hello,
Yes, this is Exchange ActiveSync policy. You could configure it at:
Exchange 2003: Exchange system manager | Global settings | mobile services | device security
Exchange 2007: Exchange management console | Organization configuration | Client access | Exchange Activesync mailbox policies | password tab
Thanks,
Elvis
