PivotCharts without PivotTables

Why did I subscribe to Office 365?
Believe it or not, that's because I understood that in Excel 2013 it was possible to create a PivotChart without ever seeing any related PivotTable.

My misunderstanding!
The new feature is simply that you don't need to create the PivotTable beforehand, but Excel 2013 can create both PivotTable and PivotChart in one click ... for me!
It can create the picture and the garbage!

So I am back to my very old problem.
How could I create tens of PivotChart without ever being overcrowded by these self-inflating useless PivotTables?

I want to get rid of the PivotTables and simply keep the living PivotCharts !!! (many number reads better on a chart)
Believe or not, but that was -I am almost sure- possible in Excel 2003 !!!

I already created a VSTO-based helper tool that creates separated sheets to harbor the annoying PivotTables.
However, I am now using typically 150 worksheets in my workbooks!
This is not a "professional" solution.
For example, when I delete a Pivot Chart, I have difficulties to ensure that the underlying PivotTable is also deleted.
(I abandoned the idea to automate this process in VSTO-Excel)

Would you have some suggestions to improve my life.
A solution for "PivotCharts without PivotTables"?
Something I could buy or something I could develop in C#, or anything else.

I would really appreciate.

Thanks

Michel

Perhaps you could put the charts on top of their table. It's one way to effectively hide the table. If you're already creating them using code, it would be a small change.

Another equivalent way would be to hide the columns containing the table. So if you have a ten column table, hide columns A through J and locate the chart from K1 onwards on the sheet. I chose columns so that changing the amount of data in the table wouldn't modify the layout and move things around too much.

Pivot Charts can definitely live without Pivot Tables in Excel 2013.

Technically the Pivot Tables exist as objects but they are not visible on any sheet and there is no need to host them. If you look at the collection of pivottables you can still see them.

When you delete this kind of  Pivot Chart , the corresponding "slave" Pivot Table is deleted automatically

The Pivot Charts can be created from the insert tab insert/pivot chart or from the Power Pivot add-in if you use it.

If this is not what you see please let us know what is he build number you see in fie/account/about Excel.

I need to apologize and take back some of what I said

The decoupled pivot charts work as advertised only when the data resides in the Excel data model aka the Power Pivot data model.

If the data is in a regular Excel range/table the pivot table is always created.

It is quite easy to add the range to the data model for example by clicking the more tables button in the field list.

This operation will copy the source data to the model and create a copy of the pivot based on the data model.

Now you can create new pivot charts from the insert/pivot chart option in the ribbon.

You need to choose "Use an external source" / "Choose Connection" / Tables / Tables in workbook data model

And yes we know these are many clicks for just inserting a pivot table or a pivot chart. We'll make it much easier.

There is no way to convert your pivot charts to work against the data model , you'll need to create them again.
