Planned Design Issues?
I would like to know if there are any critical issues with our planned Exchange 2007 design.
Current Infrastruture (not designed or deployed by current personell)
Site A with about 400 mailboxes
2 - Windows 2000 Advanced Servers with Exchange 2003 in an Active\Passive cluster connected to a SAN
2 - Windows 2003 Standard Servers with Exchange 2003 running as NLB front end servers
1 - Server 2003 Exchange 2003 server running Faxmaker Pro
Site B with about 50 mailboxes
1 - Windows 2003 Exchange 2003 server
We have decided to transition to Exchange 2007. We have an Ironport at each location for Antispam and Antivirus so we have decide not to build Edge Transport Servers. We need to have the normal things every organiztion wants and needsHigh Avalability with Disaster Recovery. With this information we are planning a dual CCR enviorment with Server 2008.
Hardware we plan to purchase is 4 HP blade servers running Quad 64bit processors with 32GB RAM and multiple GIG NIC's. These servers will be connected to an EMC SAN via Fibre Channel.
Currently network connectivity between Site A and B is T1, but being upgraded in the near future to DS3.
TheNew Design (Simple - All Exchange roles on a single server)
Site A -- 2 W2K8 Enterprise Server (64) each running E2K7 SP1 in an CCR with Node and File Sharing Majority. Server 1 will be Active\Primary for all mailboxes in Site A. Server 2 will be Passive\DR for all mailboxes in Site B. Both servers connected to a local SAN.
SiteB -- 2 W2K8 Enterprise Server (64) each running E2K7 SP1 in an CCR with Node and File Sharing Majority. Server 1 will be Active\Primary for all mailboxes in Site B. Server 2 will be Passive\DR for all mailboxes in Site A. Both servers connected to a local SAN.
--- I hope that made sense.
The basic Deployment Plan (Assume that preE2K7 Task Completed)
Install OS on all servers.
Create 2 seperate Clusters (SiteA Server1 Active\SiteBServer2 Passive)(SiteB Server1 Active\ SiteA Server2 Passive)
Install Exchange 2K7 on SiteB Server1 and SiteA Server2 and create CCR
Move test mailboxes
I realize that more work needs to be done. I just would like to get input on any flaws seen with this Design.
Thanks,
J

Well I have found out that I can only cluster the mailbox role and would need another servers for the other roles. This is what I was thinking, I just had trouble finding the written words to confirm to the boss.
Has anyone deployed CCR with W2K8 over a WAN? If so how is working for you? Any special limitationsthat should be known?
We are also looking at deploying SCR without thecluster across a WAN connection.
Can anyone tell me if they have deployed it and how well it is works for you?
Thanks,
J
