Please Wait While Windows Configures Trusted Drive Manager
Sometimes when I get an email with an attachment and try to open it I get a message that says "Please wait while Windows configures Trusted Drive Manager". It is annoying to see this and I'm not sure how to get rid of the message. Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Is this the only situation you get this message? Can you check if there any information logged in Application log when this is happening? Are you using Dell Laptop/PC?

Please collect Event logs around the time you got this message and send it to :ibsofc@microsoft.com, keep the thread url or tittle as the mail subject.

Steps for log collecting: Run->eventvwr->Windows logs->Application, save selected events log.

Thanks.

Hi,

Do you only get this message when you open E-mails with attachement? Certain attachment or all attachment?

Do you also get this message when you lunch to other apps?

If it a Dell workstation, it might be something to do with Trusted Drive Manager as the event log told. This article might give you some ideas. Thanks.

Hello:

Thanks for the link.  Software that comes with this computer doesn't have the Dell Protection since it is a work computer.

This issue does happen sometimes when we try to open the attachments.  The emails itself is not an issue.

Launching other applications without outlook is not an issue.

I already the log file to ibsofc@Microsoft.com and waiting to hear back from them.

Thank you!

Hi,

Both the error message and the event log were all pointing to Trust Drive Manger.

Consider it happened to certain attachments, I suspected that there might be some feature of those attachment triggered this alert, like file type or something. So could please check what these attachments had in common.

Meanwhile check if your PC is one of the models below:

Dell

Hello:

This is a Dell Optixplex 790

It does not have the Dell Control Point Security Manger.

This is what it does have in the Programs

Dell Client System Update

Dell Data Protection | Access

Dell Data Protection | Access | Drivers

Dell Data Protection | Access | Middleware

Question: Do I just remove the Dell Data Protection|Access alone or all 3 programs?

Thank you,

Hi,

For your question above, as you mentioned, this is a work computer, do you have an internal helpdesk? They might be the best resource for this question.

The reason we suggested this is that we dont have any knowledge about the policy of your environment. If this is a global policy applied to your environment, it might affect your work.

From our side, we can check:

  1. What those attachments has in common, like if they all contain pictures/hyperlinks/etc.
  2. If Dell Data Protection in the Add-in list in Outlook, if so, we can turn it off for a try

Thanks for your understanding.
