PrepareAD problem
I had a test Exchange 2007 SP1 server on our domain. When I had finished with it, I deleted the VM it was running on and removed all references to it in AD. Now when I try to install a live version, the install is failing. I'm getting the error:"The well-known object entry B:32:A7D2016C83F003458132789EEB127B84:CN:Exchange Servers\0ADEL:207f1505-1758-4d1e-822e-0b17754e7240,CN=Deleted Objects,DC=mydomainname,DC=co,DC=uk of the otherWellKnownObjects attribute on container object CN=Configuration,DC=mydomainname,DC=co,DC=uk points to an invalid DN or a deleted object. Please remove the entry and rerun the task."The problem is, the usual fix listed for this is:
Navigate in ADSI edit to
Configuration,
CN- Configuration, DC=Mydomain,DC=com
CN-Services
CN=Microsoft ExchangeAnd when I use ASDI Edit in 2008 R2, there is no "CN=Configuration" entry, so I can't remove the entry. The domain controllers are both running 2008 R2 and were recently upgraded from 2003 Enterprise x64. No other significant changes have been made.Any ideas would be very helpfulThanks!

Proper and non-risky way is to remove properly from Add/Remove Program since manual remove is not supported as like Exchange 2003.

Exchange 2007 is removed differently from earlier versions of Exchange Server. You cannot manually remove Exchange 2007 from a computer. The only supported ways to remove Exchange 2007 are to use Add or Remove Programs or to use the Setup program on the Exchange 2007 CD to remove Exchange 2007 and to remove the Exchange 2007 object from Active Directory.

You can recover Exchange 2007 dead server with /RecoverServer setup switch on temporary server and remove it porperly from Add/Remove Program.

Thanks James, that got me to where I could delete more Exchange-related entries. Now I just get an error that the Organization name must be provided and to use the /OrganizationName switch - I can't get any good results from that either.

Yes. Have you removed the exchange traces from AD?
What’s the exact error info when you failed the PrepareAD?
Is there any error info in the application log on the exchange server?

James, I posted everything I had available in the original post. I never was able to get Exchange 2007 to install, but Exchange 2010 worked fine right out of the box.
