Problem Uninstalling and Exchange 2003 Server
I'm having problems uninstalling an Exchange 2003 server from our environment. When I choose the remove option in the Miscrosoft Exchange Install wizard it tells me "You do not have sufficient permissions in the domain. A Domain Administrator must either re-run 'setup/DomainPrep' or create a Recipient Update Service for this domain." My account is a Domain Admin, Enterprise Admin, and Schema admin.I have Exchange 2007 server installed so I'm not sure what running the 2003 setup/DomainPrep would do? There isn't a recipient update service configured for this Exchange server, but there are others for the remaining Exchange 2003 servers in the same domain. This Exchange server isn't the first Exchange server that was installed in the environment, nor is it the last Exchange 2003 server to be removed. There are no user mailboxes on this Exchange server and no public folders other than the default system public folders that are installed when Exchange 2003 is installed. This is just our old front end server that I would like to decommision. Thanks for any help that can be offered for this.ML

I believe KB319966 explains my problem. For some reason Exchange Domain Servers is a member of the built-in in Administrators group. The resolution indicated is to remove Exchange Domain Servers from the built in Administrators group and run setup /domainprep again. What are the ramifications of running Exchange 2003 setup /domainprep on a domain that has Exchange 2007 installed and working? Do I need to then run the 2007 setup /PrepairDomain afterwards?

After removing Exchange Domain Servers from the build-in administrators group and giving Exchange Enterprise Servers full control of the Exchange Domain Servers group I was able to remove Exchange with the Exchange Installation Wizard. The changes I made to the permissions of the Exchange Domain Servers group to give Exchange Enterprise Servers full control of that group object haven't been steam rolled by the system attendant.

if you really have issues with uninstalling the server , just remove it with ADSI , it works good. don't go into running 2003 /domainprep , it's unnecessary. from your comments i see that you are removing the last exchange legacy server ? if you do just follow this guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb288905.aspx don't worry about deleting the server from ADSI , just follow ALL the steps in the article and finally just "kill" it - the 2003 server that is. good luckMCSA Messaging
