Problem with incoming messages with attachments
HiSome but not all Incoming mail that has an attachment. The attachment is appearing as text/code in the body of the email rather than as an attachment and cannot be opened. This is happening on 2 sites I look after. But seems a bit random.ANyone got any ideas or is it the sending server ?Both sites use SBS 2003 and exchange 2003 (SP2)example------_=_NextPart_001_01C99FD0.E14CEB29Content-Type: application/octet-stream; name="furtheredu.pdf"Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="furtheredu.pdf"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

Hi,
The issue is caused by the abnormal MIME format. It can happen on either the sender side or receiver side. Please let me know if you can reproduce the issue, do all PDF type attachment cant work?
Please ask the sender send the mail to another mail server, just like hotmail, to see if it can be displayed correctly. If not, it can be a sender side issue. Meanwhile, if its possible, ask the sender setup up a pop3 account and send you a test mail, then you setup a pop3 account to check the mail, see if the behavior persists.
If the issue persists, for a further analysis, we need to leverage archive sink.
How to install and use the Archive Sink utility in Exchange Server 2003

Unable so far to reproduce from my side, no not all pdfs do it but it does sometimes happen with other formats as well word and excel. I have been monitoring the pop3 mailbox that the mail downloads from unfortunately the problem has not occurred again while monitoring it. I will swap the exchange pop 3 connector to another this weekend so I can force it to leave email on the pop3 server to easier see what happens and compare the mail when we have a reoccurrence.
