Problems Hiding Users from GAL
Hi,I hope someone can help me with this problem! I work in a school, and i have been asked to create seperate Global Address Books for different groups of staff members in the school. This has gone perfectly to plan and all the address lists are working as planned. What i would now like to do is either; 1) Hide all users from the default GAL, but they must still be visable in the new custom address lists OR 2) hide 8 or 9 Mail Enabled Contacts i have created from the default GAL, but again, these still need to be displayed in the custom address lists.Basically, these Mail Enabled Contacts are the school governors, and I am trying to hide their addresses from the kids. If you can think of any easier or better way to do this, your input would be much appreciated.PS: My apologies if this doesnt make perfect sence, i havent been working with Exchange Server very long!

With Exchange 2003, you can modify the permissions of the Default Global Address List anddeny Authenticated users from listing contents. With Exchange 2007, the permissions can be applied with ADSIEdit.http://www.exchange-genie.com/2007/10/hidding-global-address-lists-gal-with-exchange-2007/

Sorry, We are using Exchange 2003 R2 with SP2. I created the address lists in Exchange System Manager under 'Recipients' then 'All Address Lists'. Is this correct or should i have created them under 'All Global Address Lists'?

Hi,Based on your description and needs, the issue is similar tohow to segregate address lists for Exchange 2003.However, that is impossible in Exchange 2003 but will be available in Exchange 2007:White Paper: Configuring Virtual Organizations and Address List Segregation in Exchange 2007http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb936719.aspxAdditionally, I would like to share one article with you about why not possbile in Exchange 2003.http://blogs.msdn.com/dgoldman/archive/2008/02/19/exchange-2003-address-list-segregation-document.aspxThanksAllen
