Problems adding a user to group in AD
Hello. I hope I am posting this in the right place. If not, I sincerely apologize. Also, I apologize in advance for any lack of knowledge I have. I am pretty new to the AD world. I am having a problem adding AD users to groups. Here are the details: There are two domains involved, for example: dtl.campus and students.dtl.campus. There is a two way trust between the domains. Groups are in the parent domain and users are in the child domain. (Don't ask why ... long story.) The client is trying to add users to a group via our software. Our software is reporting a “WILL_NOT_PERFORM” error. The user our software is using to connect to AD is a member of the Domain Admins group. If I use the AD Users and Computers snap-in, I can add the user manually. However, if I use a dsmod command I get a “Directory object not found” error. I ran some straight dsquery commands to confirm that I did not have a type-o in the DN of the group. I checked and did not find any group policies that could be related. Any ideas on what I could look at?
