This is what I got after telneting as you can see I receive only ***star symbol if I sent the helo got Unrecognized command, please if you have had similar issues share with me how you solvet it. Do you have any firewall running in front of Exchange server (specially Cisco PIX firewall) which is scanning smtp verbs? You need to disable smtp verb scanning/fixing in firewall...
