Public Folder Deletion Settings
Hello
We are running Exchange 2007 SP1. On our Public Folder database, I notice there is a setting for "Keep Deleted Items for xx days".
Currently, it is at the default of 7.
I am thinking of increasing it to 20. However - am curious to know what would happen if I had it at 20 and then changed it back to 7 again (e.g. if I noticed that the space was decreasing).
Will this affect the live public folders at all or just the area of the mailbox store where the deleted items are kept? And - out of interest - where exactly are the deleted items kept for x days?

The database pages that no longer contain the data past its expirytime would be reclaimed as free space within the database.>Will this affect the live public folders at all or just the area of the mailbox store where the deleted items are kept? Those are one and the same.>And - out of interest - where exactly are the deleted items kept for x days? They're right where they were when they were deleted. They're justmarked as "deleted" and removed from all secodary indexes.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP---

Thanks Rich...so there is actually no problem with increasing data retention on a PF and then reducing it later if we decided to?

No problem. You'll just have more empty space in a larger databasefile.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP---
