Public Folder Permissions
Hi, i have a simple task to create a public folder structure, but for me its became a nightmare, what are my steps:On Exchange Server 2007 SP2, using Public Folder Management Console, i am creating Test folder under the root folder(Default Public Folders)Then, using powershell, i am assigning permission owneron this folder to user Test : Add-PublicFolderClientPermission -Identity \test -user domain\test AccessRights ownerThen, i open outlook under test account, i can add/delete documents and even delete Test folder, all everything i want except one -I am unable to create subfolders. I already read tons of documentations about permissons for public folders, i also trying to usePFDDAVAdmin tools(but it's not working for me error 503 and 403)i even trying to add test user to Public Folder Administrator group and a local admin on exchange server - no success, only Domain Admins could do this. Please explain how could this be!!

Hi,
Please let me know whether the test user is new created user and whether this user belongs to any groups except for Domain users. In addition, I suggest you check following KB:
You cannot create a new public folder in Exchange 2000 Server, in Exchange Server 2003, or in Exchange Server 2007

Hi, Mike, thanks for the replay, i was already trying this KB, but in my case when i go to CN=Services,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=ORGANIZATION,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=administrative_group i dont have subcontainer CN=Folder Hierarchies and CN=Public Folders in it, under CN=administrative_group i have only CN=Advanced Security, CN=Routing Groups and CN=ServersMaybe i should create this containers?Test account is newly created user and Domain USers group member only.

Hi,
You need to create Folder Hierarchies object.
For detailed steps, you can refer to following thread:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchangesvrtransport/thread/22f1373c-8685-438b-a677-6c7b0522efc5
In addition, would you please let me know whether it is a pure Exchange 2007 environment or migrated from Exchange 2003.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi, Mike, I try try to create Folder Hierarchies object, but after this outlook 2003 clients, starting recieving a message that their version of outlook is blocked by administrator otlook 2007 and web access is working, but Public folders tree dissappeared! My environment was not migrated from Exchange 2003, but actually this is also not fresh install. Previously Exchange 2003 was in domain, but it was not configured, then i remove it and install Exchange 2007 on a new server.

Hi,
Thanks for your response.
Based on your description, I still think that the issue related to the Public Folder hierarchies. For your reference:
When you use Outlook with an Exchange 2007 mailbox, you cannot connect to Exchange 2007, and you receive an error message
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924625/en-us
From your previous thread, I understand the Folder Hierarchies container cannot be found under the Administrator Group container. From your latest thread, I understand the Organization originally has Exchange 2003 installed. I would like to know whether you have checked both the Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) (for Exchange 2007) and the First Administrative Group (if you have not changed name of Admin Group) for Exchange server 2003.
For your reference:
MSExchangeIS 9519 0x972: Public Folders Container Deleted, or Missing Required Attributes
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727370.aspx
In addition, please attempt following method to troubleshoot:
1. Open folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Bin
2. Double click Public Folder Management Console.msc to run PF management tool
3. Configure the Tool to connect to your Exchange 2007 mailbox server
4. Whether are you able to get Default Public Folders and System Public Folders? If yes, whether are you able to expand the two folders to get sub folders. If not, whether are you able to create new Public Folder? If not, please let me know the error you encountered when attempting to create new Public Folder. You can also send screenshot to me directly v-mishen@microsoft.com if needed
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for a reply, in my case only recreating of Public Folder Database and storage group resolve my problem, i found a thread thisthe same issue, but now cant find it again, so i post steps here:1. Dismount Public Folder Database2. Renameor move Public folder Database file to a new location3. Mount Public Folder Database(this will create a blank database)4. Delete Public Folder Database(in my case it was giving me an error thatmy databasecontains folder replicas, so i run Get-PublicFolderStatistics | Remove-PublicFolder this will remove some system folders and let you delete database)5. Delete database file and logs6. Delete Storage Group in which your Public Folder Storage was located7. Check AD to ensure that all related records was deleted(in my case i checkCN=InformationStore,CN={Your Exchange Server Name},CN=Servers,CN={Your Exchange Administrative Group Name},CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Exchange2007,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Domain,DC=COMit should not contains your deleted storage group. And also i deleted Folders Hierarhies object which i created myself while troubleshooting my problem8. Create New Storage Group9. Create Public Folder Database with the old database name10. Dismount new database11.Replacenew database filewith your old database file12. In Public Folder Database properties check This database can be overwritten by a restore13. Mount databaseSo now i am fully resolve all my problems, thanks to everybody.
