Public Folder assistant sending reply as attachment
I've setup a public folder with an autoresponse using the folder assistant.
When ever an autoresponse is sent, the response is an attachment in MHTML and EML.
Is there a way to make the response the actual email rather than an attachment.
I've tried plain text but no success.

Clarify: Auto response sent out as an attachment after deployed it on a public folder
Troubleshooting:
1. Check the template which you make in the Folder Assistant if its HTML format
2. Can you provide the process that you set up auto response?
3. Please provide a screenshot about issued auto response
Note: You can post here or sent to me [Microsoft Services File Transfer Website, Password: zP@kpjIc7cd]
Collect info:
1. Confirm version: Exchange server, windows server, windows client OS and outlook
2. Does the issue occur right after you set up the folder assistant or you have already used it for some times?
3. Do you also have other rules in the Folder Assistant besides auto response rule?

Thanks for the response James.
Troubleshoot
1, The template has been created as both html, rich text and plain text. I've also used word as the editor and outlook.
2. In Outlook 2003 client > right click public folder > properties > Administration tab > folder assistant > add rule > Ticked 'Reply with' > click 'Template' > from Format menu, select 'Plain Text' > in subject entered 'Finance Enquiry' > in body entered 'Thanks for your email. A member of the finance team will be in contact with you soon.' > saved and exited > clicked 'ok' on edit rule box > confirmed warning rule will be applied to all incoming messages with yes > clicked 'ok' on folder assistant box > clicked 'ok' on PF properties box.
3. Screenshot of the return email uploaded to MSFT - this is of the return email to external clients - the same happens with internal however the attachment can be opened as an outlook email.
Info
1. Exchange 2007 v08.01.0263.000 | Server 2003 x64 SP2 | XP x64 SP2 | Outlook 2007 SP1
and i have also tried on Outlook 2003 SP3
2. This is my first attempt to setup a folder assistant on a PF so from the getgo, the emails have always been send as an attachment
3. No other rules exist.
Thanks again

Please try to send a test mail from external to public folder, and then intercept the auto reply in the submission queue. So we can check if the reply has been generate incorrectly at the first place, or its been tampered after sending [Please do it in unproductive time]
1. Send mail to public folder
2. Go to Hub server, Launch Queue Viewer, and suspend submit queue
3. Wait reply message appears
4. Launch EMS
5. Get-Message | ft wrap
6. Suspend-Message Identity
7. Export-Message Identity
8. Enter output path
9. Then open exported message and check
Send public folder test mail from internal user; see if the issue still persists
Meanwhile, please create a brand-new public folder just for testing, try to reproduce issue

Hi James
The intercepted message was incorrect too i.e. it was an attachment rather than an email. It did exactly the same for an internal email.
I created a brand new pf and setup to do an autoreply and it was still the same issue; auto-reply emails return as an attachment.
One thing which i failed to mention from the start, apologies, and i dont know whether this would be causing it. We have setup a transport rule to append a disclaimer to all emails; this actually shows up in the auto-reply emails as normal i.e. in the main body rather than in attachment.

James your going to throw a computer at me!
I disabled the transport rule and the email went through perfectly!!!
I've now updated the rule to contain an exception and all is working well.
Many many thanks for your help, it was much appreciated!!!
